The Corner Award was launched in 2016 as a way to say thanks and give something back to the industry that has been so good to us for so long. The annual award is dedicated to celebrating artists who are breaking the mould and making an impact with their music.

Hello! Firstly, congrats on making this year’s Corner Award shortlist.

Basics first, how long have you been performing as *artist* and how did it all get started?

I would consider the release of my track YOLO as the start of CLYPSO, so it started 2.5 years ago. I started messing around with beats, thought I’d put some lyrics on it and collaborate with friends on artwork and videos in a DIY kind of way.

Can you tell us about your most recent release, what inspired it?

It’s been 8 months since my not so recent EP release, but I will be releasing a song this month of September. It’s a song about people power and personal power.

What’s your writing process like? Do you start with lyrics, music.. a beat?

Most of the tracks start with a beat and bassline. I suppose that’s the first thing that hooks me into a pop song so this has become my default as well when I’m creating.

How do you push through the ol’ writers block when it strikes?

I just put any ideas I’ve got down on the comp. Doesn’t matter what it is, anything is better than an empty project. The accumulation of nothing usually becomes something or triggers a flow.

What’s your favourite thing about performing live?

Crowd energy. It’s my favourite and most nerve racking thing not knowing what the crowd’s going to be like or how they’re going to react.

What’s the best show you’ve ever been to as a punter?

It’s PNAU or The Presets for me.

What advice would you give to budding musicians?

If music is all you can think of doing then you should probably be doing it.
